Tactile & Textile series 02

The “tactile & textile” series explores the balance between visual and touch designs. A variety of in-depth thinking can be derived from slow design, such as environmental friendliness and sustainability of materials. The majority of products designed by the studio are inspired by the nature and all made by hand. The slow product-making process and the Nordic design style highlighting relaxation and idleness shed a light on the aesthetic value of slowing down the pace of our life and perceiving nature.

The work is intended to allow everyone, including groups with visual impairment like colour-blind people, to appreciate and experience textile designs as an ethical & extending market strategy. After experimenting with different handicraft techniques, I decided to combine fabrics of different grains to create an entirely new touch experience for users. All these four works adopt a frigid and natural colour scheme comprising black, grey and brown, which are the most frequently used colours by my client and most close to their original colours in the eyes of colour-blind people. In the meantime, it is also a prime colour system capable of highlighting the nature and style of North European design. In terms of fabric selection, I made the biodegradability of fabrics a consideration for my slow design. As such, I decided to follow a mono-fabric principle and used 100% pure wool as the raw material in part of my work.
